Joseph’s son Harry Landa opened Landa’s Park as a tourist site in 1898 when the International and Great Northern Railroad built a spur to the site. Railroads ran weekend trips to the park for enjoyment and excursions on Landa Lake.
The park was eventually sold to a San Antonio investment group. They operated it through 1933 but were forced to close the park due to financial problems. “Concerned citizens” purchased the park in 1936. As a result, the park has been in operation since purchased by the citizen group.
