The best places in Page AZ are definately worth visiting and are a requirement for any Arizona Trip. If you are going to be in Page, AZ, you must tour the Upper Antelope Slot Canyon, along with Horseshoe Bend and the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell. Plan this portion of your visit as the tour through Upper Antelope Slot Canyon requires you to go through one of the Navaho Tour companies and getting a reservation needs to be in advance. The Epic Arizona Trip started with us flying into Phoenix where we immediately drove up to Page getting in after dark. We ate at a Denny’s and stayed that night at the Holiday Inn Express in Page.
Upper Antelope Slot Canyon
The Upper Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon sitting on Navajo land that was formed by the long-term erosion of Navajo sandstone due to flash flooding.
Rainwater, especially during monsoon seasons, runs through the high land basin above slot canyon sections, picking up speed and sand as it rushes into the narrow passageways. Over time, the passageways eroded more and more, deepening the corridors and smoothing hard edges to form characteristic curved and flowing shapes.
We decided to use the Antelope Canyon Navajo Tours Company. It was great and we do highly recommend them. They provided a one-of-a-kind tour of the beautiful Upper Antelope Canyon. The Upper Antelope Canyon tour starts, of course, with driving to the tour site, which is down Highway 98 East, which is to the southeast of Page.

Horseshoe Bend Overlook
The Horseshoe Bend overlook is a horseshoe-shaped, meander of the Colorado River, located near the town of Page. The overlook, sometimes called the East Rim of the Grand Canyon, is 4,200 feet above sea level, and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet above sea level. Standing above the Colorado River at the edge of the Horseshoe Bend cliff is breathtaking.
And how was it formed? Six million years ago, the region around Horseshoe Bend was much closer to sea level, and the Colorado River was a meandering river with a nearly level floodplain. Around that time, the region began to be uplifted, this trapped the river in its bed, and the river rapidly cut downwards to produce the Horseshoe Bend we see today.
This is the same Colorado River that carved the Grand Canyon downstream. It truly is a sight to see!

Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell
The Glen Canyon Dam is an enormous structure built from 1956 to 1966 to harness the power from the flowing Colorado River. The water is run through turbines on the dam, creating electricity, and released on the other side back down into the River. The Dam creates Lake Powell which has over 25 million acre-feet of water storage capacity.
The Carl B. Jayden Visitor Center is located 700 feet above the Colorado River overlooking the Dam and Bridge. The Visitor Center provides exhibits, audio-visual programs, and ranger presentations. It also has a gift shop and an educational bookstore.

Lodging: Holiday Inn Express – Page, AZ
The Holiday Inn Express in Page, AZ was a really nice stay. The facilities were really nice, clean, and looked like they had been through some type of remodeling as nothing really looked old or out of date. Breakfast, as usual at a Holiday Inn, was fantastic and simple.
You could tell Page is near Lake Powell as there were a number of large boats on trailers and staying in the parking lot overnight.
The best places in Page AZ are well worth staying to night to ensure you get that experience of seeing these attractions. We highly recommend staying here as we really enjoyed the stay.
Erin and I highly, highly recommend a visit to Page and take the time to go to the Upper Antelope Slot Canyon, Horseshoe Bend Overlook, and the Glen Canyon Dam, while you are in or around Page.
