Bell Rock Sedona is an iconic geographic landmark representing the natural beauty that abounds in the Sedona AZ area and is also known for its vortex meditation up-flow qualities. If you find yourself in the Sedona or Cottonwood area or just passing through, you’ve got to stop, stretch your legs, and take some photos at the majestic Bell Rock landmark near Sedona or enjoy a quick hike on the Bell Rock Trail Sedona.
What is Bell Rock?
Bell Rock is a red rock butte with an elevation at its summit of close to 5,000 feet above sea level. Its panoramic views make it a popular landmark and tourist attraction. The bell rock formation resembles a bell with the base much wider than the top.
The red rocks are just beautiful. The Baby Bell Rock is to the north and the Courthouse Butte sits to the east.
Parking
Turn into the Courthouse Vista Parking Lot located just north of the Bell Rock Formation. Park in the parking area and walk south to the signs showing you all the trails and landmarks in this area. This includes the Bell Rock Loop trail.
Bell Rock Trailhead
The Bell Rock hike trail begins at the Bell Rock Access trail and continues to the north. This is just up from the parking lot and the Welcome signage leading you to the main trail. Most visitors hike up the northern front face of the rock.
You will see a Bell Rock Climb sign indicating the trails.
Along the way, see these baskets filled with rocks, called basket cairns, being used to show the main trail.
The short hike is a small loop about a quarter mile in distance before you reach the higher levels. There’s a large rock you have to climb over. The final trail marker will be on the other side of the rock. The trail goes higher, even to the top of Bell Rock. However, that portion is not marked, be cautious if you climb to higher reaches.
The view as you climb up the base of Bell Rock is stunning. There’s the Courthouse Butte to the east and the Bay of Bell Rock to the north. Again, Sedona is to the north, and so is the Chapel of the Holy Ghost. The raw beauty of this area is significant, so regardless of the direction you’re looking, you will see spectacular sights.
Up-Flow Vortex Qualities
Bell Rock is known for its up-flow vortex qualities for those into meditation and related interests. The meditation perch, where the vortex is the strongest, is a large flat rock located between the 10th and 11th trail markers. This vortex is said to promote serenity and spiritual energy. Seekers from around the world have come to Bell Rock for contemplative reflection and inspiration.
